For the majority of Australian homes a pet is part of the family and many
of them will be included in Christmas celebrations. Christmas day around the
tree will no doubt involve laughter, joy, excitement – and happy barks and
contented purrs.
Buying a gift is said to bring as much pleasure to the giver as the receiver
and the family pet is included in the gift list for many Australian families.
There are many pet toys, treats and accessories available in department stores
as well as pet stores. Don’t leave it to the last moment to shop for Puss
and Rover as shopping for the pet is popular and many items sell out – just
as the most popular children’s toys quickly disappear off the shelves.
There are toys to suit every size dog ranging from small squeaky toys to
frisbees for the athletic dog. When buying toys make sure they cannot break
or be chewed into small pieces which can be swallowed. Also make sure all
balls are too large to lodge in a dog’s throat. The fashionable dog may appreciate
a new collar and lead, or a fancy coat.
Puss would love a squeaky mouse toy or a scratching pole, and being creatures
of comfort, all cats would love a cosy sleeping basket.
Birds are a popular pet in many households and cage toys and treats, or even
a larger cage, can be a great gift for the bird in your life.
Why not pamper your dog or cat by having it professionally bathed and groomed.
This will have them looking picture perfect for the Christmas snapshots.
Christmas trees are very enticing to cats who see them as a challenge to
be climbed and dangling baubles tempt most cats and dogs. It is important
to make sure that trees cannot be toppled over and that decorations are unbreakable.
Glass baubles are a hazard to pets as are decorative lights.
What to buy the pet who has everything? How about a making a donation in
its name to your local animal welfare shelter or rescue.
